Although bicycle repair is a set of specialized skills, the Bike Library believes that anyone can learn these skills. Throughout the year the Bike Library offers basic maintenance and repair classes that are open to the public and free to volunteers. Volunteers contribute their time to fixing bikes and doing general shop tasks for various programs—volunteer are what makes this place magical. Our goal is to elevate patrons’ and volunteers’ self-sufficiency and confidence in their mechanical skills. This can also translate into more confident riding, and skills can be shared with pals!
No matter what your goal is in building your wrenching skills, you will pick up skills simply by being in the shop, coming to programs, or using Rent-a-Bench and WTF Night. Many folks volunteer in order to learn bicycle mechanic skills while contributing to the mission. Learning these skills can seems like it takes a lifetime, and yet there are simple things one can pick up in very little time too.
We are proud to create a space in which all who want a bicycle, learn how to ride, and/or learn bicycle maintenance and repair are welcome. The Bike Library fosters an atmosphere to accommodate bicycle users of all skill and experience levels, and we encourage mutual exchange of knowledge among patrons and volunteers of the Bike Library.
You can start volunteering by filling out an application, and then attending orientation.
