CHECK OUTThe check-out program allows you rent a bike for 6 months by paying a deposit, typically within the $100 to $300 range. At the end of 6 months, you have the option to return it for a refund on your deposit minus the $50 sustainability fee. The sustainability fee helps the Bike Library cover the expenses of normal bicycle wear and the overhead of running our shop. Additional charges for extensive damages and/or replacement parts may apply.

A check-out bike is a high quality commuter bike that is READY TO RIDE. These bikes prioritize comfort, stability, and safety with features like an upright riding position, wider tires with light tread, a comfortable saddle, a wide gear range, a rear rack for carrying items, and reliable brakes. WHAT IF I WANT TO KEEP A CHECK-OUT BIKE?
No sweat! Once the deposit is paid and the checkout form is signed, you have essentially "bought" the bike with the option of returning it within six months. After six months, you simply forfeit the option to return the bike. What IF Something BREAKS ON my check-out bike?
If you have repair needs within the six-month checkout period, stop by with the bicycle and we will work together to resolve the issue. The Bike Library will cover the cost of minor repairs & adjustments. For larger repairs, we keep your expense low by using second-hand parts where applicable and providing labor without charge. Please be aware that you may need to leave the bike at the shop depending on availability of volunteer mechanics and replacement parts. BUYAs-Is bikes typically range between $100-$500, excepting our high-end offerings. As-Is bikes have been adjusted for safety but have not undergone the Check-Out bikes rigorous repair checklist. As-Is bikes are not returnable.
These bikes are often specialized--for road, mountain, gravel, recumbent or tandem riding. Do you sell as-is Kids' bikes?
Yes, kids' bikes are available for purchase! Prices range from $10-$75. As-Is kids' bikes are not returnable. As of Winter 2024, we began free strider rentals, pending availability. What if something breaks on my as-is bike?
If you would like to fix or adjust your bike, bring it in to Rent-A-Bench! Our staff and volunteers will guide you through making the repairs yourself. Can I return an as-is bike?
No. As-Is bikes are final sale.
